Welcome to Marriage Unbroken - maybe you heard about us through the podcast we recorded  with friends at their Walk As One Ministries (Link).  Or maybe you stumbled upon us more randomly. Your time is valuable so let’s get down to it.

Why we do what we do?  We have been married for 45 years as of this writing.  At the 32 yr mark we nearly ended up divorced as our marriage was incredibly broken. Our struggles began many years prior to this mark, however.  This is the raw story of our marriage’s healing journey.  It’s a story of emotional baggage claim that had been building up for decades.  We actually started dating in 9th grade. We had history.  But that didn’t make us whole.  We also had faith in God.  He is the one who wove healing throughout the layers of our story.  It’s a story of childhood traumas impacting us both individually and how they impacted our  marriage.  Needs unmet, protests of anger gone unresolved  for many years, emotional avoidance and spiraling emotions sending us in opposite directions, counseling sessions misdiagnosing our hurts and failures, the list is long of the mess we accumulated throughout our marriage. 

The Turning Point - At a dark place in our marriage, I  (Roz) heard in my heart Jesus ask me a question. “Roz, what do you want?”  I struggled to find my answer - for two years - but when my heart found the answer I ran to Him and said, “Jesus, I know what I want - I want wholeness!” That was the turning point.

Honesty, humility and healing were on the path that Jesus stretched out before us.  There is hope, we’ve experienced it first hand.  It takes vulnerability for each person, but don’t be scared off - when we show up Jesus meets us right there providing what we can’t produce in our own strength. 

We are Rick & Roz Barrett - who are marriage life coaches. We minister through groups and individual sessions, with the belief that we all heal in community.
